The Ascent Route (Aravalli Hills)

Reaching Nahargarh Fort requires a steep climb up the Aravalli Hills. The route gains roughly 700 feet of elevation from the Jaipur city center.

Most early morning visitors cycle or hike the pedestrian pathway from Purani Basti or Nahargarh Road. The motorable road is roughly 15 kilometers long, but the direct hiking trail takes 45 to 60 minutes uphill.

Guided cycling tours usually begin at 6:00 AM or 6:15 AM. Helmets are mandatory for riders. Do not wander off the main path into the Nahargarh Biological Park. Leopards and other wildlife inhabit the surrounding jungle.

Cobbled Elephant Path

30-45 minsSteep incline

This steep cobbled pathway was historically used by royalty riding elephants and horses. It serves as the primary route for cyclists and hikers ascending the hill. Keep to the left when cycling and use low gears. Take breaks if the 700-foot climb becomes too tiring.

This vantage point looks out over Man Sagar Lake and the Jal Mahal (Water Palace). It breaks up the final stretch of the climb. The light hits the lake early in the morning, making it excellent for photography before you reach the summit.
